In detail
For session cache, work queues and counters, when the app already speaks Redis. Teams that want ElastiCache without moving data out of Switzerland. It is not the engine for relational data or OLAP.

This is Redis’s own constraint, and it decides sizing before anything else. Data lives in RAM: the memory ceiling of the instance grid is therefore the ceiling of your dataset, not just a billing line. Three practical consequences.
- Measure the real size of your keys before choosing an instance size, not after: a saturated cache evicts, it does not grow
- The eviction policy is an application choice: decide what goes first, or Redis will decide for you
- Data that must survive a restart does not belong there alone: keep the source of truth in PostgreSQL or MariaDB, managed PostgreSQL

That is not the same legal basis as AWS, Azure or GCP. We are not your counsel: GDPR for EU data in Switzerland relies in particular on adequacy.
